Arizona Stagecoach understands the importance of keeping our environment clean. That’s why, we’re proud to announce that we not only are the #1 Premier, ONSITE, shared ride shuttle located inside the Tucson International Airport but we also boast a 100% Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fleet.
CNG has been around for many decades, believe it or not, but with the price of fuel and harm that carbon emissions have been doing to our surroundings, it is just now becoming popular with the green movement and is very efficient.
What is CNG?
Compressed natural gas, or CNG, is natural gas under pressure which remains clear, odorless, and non-corrosive. Although vehicles can use natural gas as either a liquid or a gas, most vehicles use the gaseous form of methane. Methane is the most limitless and available element. It is squeezed and compressed to pressures above 3,100 pounds per square inch with the end result being the useful alternative fuel, CNG.
Why does Arizona Stagecoach use only CNG in its fleet of vans?
With new owners, Kirk and Ronda Markworth purchasing this iconic transportation company on December 30, 2011, they believe in doing their share to ease the carbon footprint. Since only new vehicles can be upfitted with CNG, 90% of the fleet are 2012-2013′s with a couple from 2007.
What are the benefits of using natural gas in transportation?
Natural gas is produced both worldwide and domestically at relatively low cost and is cleaner burning than gasoline or diesel fuel. Natural gas vehicles show an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80 percent compared to gasoline vehicles. It also reduces smog-forming and greenhouse gas emissions as well as our dependence on foreign oil and oil in general. Generally, natural gas is also less expensive than petroleum produced gasoline.
What vehicles use natural gas?
CNG vehicles have been introduced in a wide variety of commercial applications, from light-duty trucks and sedans – like taxi cabs, to medium-duty trucks – like UPS delivery vans and postal vehicles, to heavy-duty vehicles like transit buses, street sweepers and school buses.
Besides our fleet at Arizona Stagecoach, these other Tucson businesses or industries are partially or completely CNG:
Currently, Tucson’s Sun Tran Public Bus Service consists of a fleet of 24 new buses as of June 2014. Read about it through the link below:
